Yankee Candle Burning Tips and Burning Times
General Candle Safety
- Remove all packaging from the candle before lighting.
- Place the candle on a protected, heat-resistant, dry surface, away from anything that can catch fire, and out of reach of children and pets. Use holders designed for the particular candle style.
- Keep wick(s) trimmed to 1/8" at all times. If smoking occurs, blow candle out. Trim wick(s), remove trimmings, and relight.
- Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches, or any combustible material. Keep the wick centred. Avoid burning candles in drafts.
- Never leave burning candles unattended. Keep them within sight at all times.
- Keep all matches and lighters out of the reach of children and teach everyone in the family the rules of safe candle use.
Trimming the wick! (and why it is so important)
- Trimming the wick on your candle before re-lighting, reduces the possibility of smoking and sooting.
- Each time you burn a candle, a portion of the blackened wick will be left. By trimming this back you will cut down on the amount of smoke given off from the candle. This will also help to reduce the amount of soot that sometimes appears on walls, mirrors, etc after prolonged use of candles in a room.
- Trimming the wick also helps to ensure that the wick stays centred in the candle. This will ensure that your candle burns down evenly.
- Trimming the wick will only take a few seconds, but by doing this each time you light your candle, you will get the maximum burning times, the best from your candles and enjoy them even more!
Scented Jar Candles
- Handle your jar candle with care; glass containers are fragile. Avoid glass-to-glass contact when removing or replacing the lid. Do not use if the jar is cracked, chipped or scratched. Do not refill with wax.
- To minimize wax left on the sides of the jar candle, burn for 3 hours at a time; it is normal for some wax to be left. The amount will vary per colour, fragrance and burning conditions.
- Prevent possible heat damage to the surface under your candle by discontinuing use when 1/2" of wax remains. Only burn your candle on a suitable plate or other fire and heat-resistant surface.
Sampler Votive Candles
- As these candles liquify when burning, use only in an appropriate holder. Do not burn freestanding.
Wax Tarts
- Place wax tart in the top of a dry oil burner and never add water. Light an unscented t-light (never use scented t-lights) in the bottom of the burner. When melted, the wax potpourri will release its wonderful fragrance.
- To change fragrance, extinguish the t-light and allow the melted wax to harden. Gently tap the sides of the burner and in most cases the wax will pop out. If not, carefully run an old knife round the outside of the wax to dislodge it.
